Coccyx Cushions

Some people, for example those suffering from fibromyalgia, find that sitting for long periods causes pain in the lowest part of their spine – the coccyx, or tailbone. This pain, known as coccydynia, is caused by excess pressure being applied to the coccyx and can be relieved by using a special cushion which has a cutout in the tailbone area.

Although there are other designs on the market, such as donut shaped cushions, the cutout design seems to be the most effective. The cushion will support the rest of your body, distributing the weight evenly whilst leaving the coccyx free. The majority of coccyx cushions consist of a high-density foam filling with a gel pad for added comfort. Most have a removable, washable cover. And of course they are easily transportable, so you can use them on any chair in your home and also in your vehicle.

Some models with are made with memory foam materials, which may be more comfortable and distribute pressure more effectively, though they will cost more.
